Reverse circulation drilling rig is a type of drilling rig used for deep hole drilling in various applications such as mining, exploration, Geothermal Drilling, etc.

Unlike traditional drilling methods, where drilling fluid (mud) circulates down the drill pipe and up the annular space, reverse circulation drilling involves reversing the flow of drilling fluid. In this method, drilling fluid is pumped down through the annulus and then up through the drill pipe to bring cuttings and rock samples to the surface.

The reverse circulation drill consists of drill pipe, drill bit, mud pump, mud tank, cyclone separator and other components. The drill pipe is connected to the drill, which cuts through the rock. Mud pumps are used to pump drilling fluid into the annulus, and mud tanks are used to store and recirculate drilling fluid. Cyclone separators are used to separate cuttings and rock samples from drilling fluids.

In some drilling applications, reverse circulation RIGS are preferred because they offer advantages such as faster drilling rates, better sample recovery, and less drilling fluid contamination. They are particularly useful in hard rock formations where traditional drilling methods are inefficient or ineffective.
