Drilling fluid and cuttings enter the borehole through the drill pipe, forming a drilling fluid circulation.

At the wellhead, drilling fluid and cuttings enter the separator. The gas pressure in the separator separates the drilling fluid from the cuttings, lifting the cuttings to the surface.
